Day 120 | April 30 2007 | Holy Stuff

Bhimashankar, a popular religious picnic spot, is only 130 Km away from Pune. It is home to an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, housing one of the twelve esteemed Jyotirlinga shrines. The temple area is a very typical one with small shacks selling holy stuff, snacks and mementos. This pic is of one such shop full of holy stuff. In focus are a lot of 'Aum' lockets to be worn around ones neck.

Day 119 | April 29 2007 | Celebrations with Champagne

Traveling from Pune to a weekend getaway, my family and I passed by through Narayangao. This is the astronomically important place hosting India's ambitious GMRT project, the world's largest radio telescope at metre wavelengths.

Narayangao also is a host to Chateau Indage Estate Vineyards, which produces and exports internationally, world class wines and champagnes. Now thats India Shining! For a small fee, visitors are allowed to see the wine making process and a wine tasting session.

Thats the 'Marquise De Pompadour' Champagne, we were having to celebrate. Cheers!

Day 118 | April 28 2007 | Superbikes for sale

Its a dream come true for many Puneites.. Finally a shop selling imported superbikes, and motorcycle gear. The owner say he is just making the stuff 'available', nothing more. Just walk in, select you bike or gear, pay and get the stuff, and score cool points. The shop is situated between Pune's MG Road and East street, behind Marz-O-Rin. The two beauties in shops window are from Honda, Japan. Can any one identify them?

Day 117 | April 27 2007 | Burger King's Jumbo Chicken

Does that sight bring water to your mouth? Do you feel like grabbing it and having a big bite... Well.. I do, always, cos thats the Jumbo Chicken made by Pune's very famous Burger King joint. One Jumbo, and a meal is done, one can hardly eat anything more (but then there are exceptions :).

This one was taken at Burger King at the end of East Street. The other joint is at Koregaon, just a few min from Osho Commune.

Day 116 | April 26 2007 | Chandani Chowk - Pune

Thats the view of speeding vehicles on the highway below, from Pune's Chandani Chowk. Joining Kothrud, NDA road, Pirangut Industrial area and Aundh, Chandani Chowk is Pune's famous hangout night spot. A host to more than 20 joints, hotels and specialty restaurants with great food, service and exotic names like 'Up and Above', 'Khana Peena Jeena', its a place for a lot of late night action.

Day 115 | April 25 2007 | Around Pune - Bandhani Seller

Bandhani work are hand made patterns on cloth, made by tie and dye. 'Bandh' means to tie in Marathi language. The colored patterns on the cloth are made by tying small knots on the cloth, spread out in desired patters. After the tied up cloth is ready, its dipped in color/dye of choice. After drying up, the knots are opened to reveal the unpainted areas. And now what we have is a Bandhani patterned cloth ready. Originating from the historical Indian states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, this is now widely available all across India.

Thats a Gujarathi Bandhani seller displaying these beautiful dress materials in his road side shop near Tulshibaug Pune; the old city shopping hub.

Day 114 | April 24 2007 | Window to the Blue Planet

Its always exiting to fly home. And thankfully the Air Deccan flight was delayed by only 1 hour. This time I photographed my journey all the way. I got many good shots, and this is one of them. Do have a look at the others here.

Monday, April 23, 2007

Day 113 | April 23 2007 | A Date with the Moon

Late at night, looking up at the sky, the moon was hidden behind a screen of fluffy clouds. To me, the two Ashoka trees are looking like rockets, ready fly me into space for a date with the moon.

Sunday, April 22, 2007

Day 112 | April 22 2007 | Finger prints, Signatures and NDA's

It is strange that even in this age, one needs fingerprints on legal stuff. Not because someone cant sign, but because one may deny signing it...

Took these snaps of a colleague signing an agreement (NDA) just before attending an IT certification exam at the testing center.

Day 111 | April 21 2007 | Modeling at office

That cool dude is Devi, aka DSP, aka Sardar of 'Eagle Gang'.. with his intense looks. This is out of a series of modeling shots taken at office. I had a chance to use the soft portrait setting of my Nikon D40 for this shot.

You need a professional quality portrait or modeling portfolio done, don't hesitate, gimme a call. All lines are open now! Operators waiting just for your call! CALL NOW!!

Day 110 | April 20 2007 | Liquor Chocolates .. Hick !

Now thats a drunk chocolate, which cant even stand straight. The blue one did not stand straight, no matter what. These are the last 4 of a batch of hundreds my friend got from his trip to the US. The liquor chocolates taste very good with the raw liquor inside, but they get over very very soon.

Day 109 | April 19 2007 | Invasion by the Dragon

The Chinese dragon is every where... Chinese toys, Chinese food, Chinese goods, even Chinese motorbikes. Anything cheap, and it will have a 'Made In China' tag on it. Just saw on TV that a fluctuation in the Shanghai Stock Market affected the Indian Stock Market indicator, the Sensex. Is that scary or what?

Thats the colourful menu card of a polular Chinese restaurant Chung Fa. Btw, the food's great but not 'Chinese' cheap.

Day 108 | April 18 2007 | Black and White

She's black, She's white.. She's black n white.. This goat was posing for me, her gaze somewhere else..

Day 107 | April 17 2007 | Pink Love

Its a beautiful pink flower which I saw in my office garden; but the framing is bad. The top part of the flower is missing from the frame, but I had to post this for the flowers beauty.

Day 106 | April 16 2007 | Hard Days Work - IT Engineer

Information Technology is still a major growth driver not only in India, but also in the Asian subcontinent. Thousands of new jobs are migrating into the Asian region. The reasons are obvious.. cheaper and higher quality outputs from the region. This is IT outsourcing to BPO's. India has revenues of 6.4 Billion USD from offshore BPO and 36 Billion USD from IT and total BPO. Now thats India Shining!!

That is Sandip, my colleague and friend working on a case with a North American customer, for a leading IT firm in Bangalore.

Day 105 | April 15 2007 | Lights Out..

Thats how my office looks when its deserted. There were not more than a few people on the floor today as it was a Sunday. I had wanted this shot for a long time, but could never take it as it was always bright with the fluorescent lighting.

Luckily, the over head lights just went out and I knew they could come back within a minute. Not wanting to loose this window of opportunity I took this shot, without being able to set my DSLR. It was late afternoon, and the low sun nearing the horizon was bathing the floor in golden light. A window on the right, with dark sun control film, makes some of the surfaces blue in the shot.

Day 104 | April 14 2007 | Golden Sky

Waking up after a cat nap, I came out to stretch the balcony of my 2nd floor home. I was delighted to see this breathtaking golden sight. With a bird flying home, and another one just sitting, aint it beautiful?

Day 103 | April 13 2007 | Conflict (buy insurance)

I heard some comotion in the lane where I stay. Looking out I saw a well dressed, middle aged guy arguing with two men in army overalls; obviously soldiers. It turned out that the army guys banged the civilians car, and the car had a scratch or dent of some sort. The heated argument only ended after a few minutes.. and how.. the army men sat on their bike, and ran away as fast as they could with the poor civilian running behind them. Finally the army men escaped, leaving a very furious panting man behind. I hope the poor guy had good car insurance.

Day 102 | April 12 2007 | Shades of a Lamp Shade

To say the truth, there was really nothing better to post today. This qualifies as the best shot of the day.. So here is a 'not so unique' lamp shade. Clicked this while exiting Friends, a fast food joint in Koramangala, after a late dinner.

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Day 101 | April 11 2007 | Gulmohar - The Flame Tree

Thats the Gulmohar, or flame tree, in full bloom near my office in Electronics City, Bangalore. Originally from Madagascar, it blooms at the onset of summer, and widely seen almost all over India.

Day 100 | April 10 2007 | Mindless Consumerism

Recently I was approached by a book cover designer. He needed suitable photos for a book on the subject 'Mindless Consumerism'. I was out with my camera looking for settings and moods which would suit the cover.

This one is out of that series, taken in Koramangala outside Cafe Coffee Day. It may not suit the topic, but the colours in this photo compeled me to post this.

Monday, April 9, 2007

Day 99 | April 9 2007 | Kaleidoscope

I can recall spending hours together looking into one, looking at the riot of colors and shapes evolve in my prized possession - a kaleidoscope. It was my favourite pass time during my pre-teen days.

I was doing the same but this time through my camera. I captured these beautiful shapes and colors evolve... Do get one, its fun.

Day 98 | April 8 2007 | Hard at work - Caricature artist

A famous Caricature artist busy at work inside a mall. He does posters for Rs.100, and they are pretty good.

Taken from the 1st floor, exactly above the artist, I think this is a good shot.

Saturday, April 7, 2007

Day 97 | April 7 2007 | Bye Sun, good bye Earth !?!

What do you feel when you see such rampant pollution sources. Does it remind you of the final Sun set marching on its way? I can always recall the mad prophet from Tintin magazines, who carried plaques saying 'the end is near'.

Taken from the top of my terrace after a hot Bangalore afternoon, thats the Mico-Bosch factory in sight.

Friday, April 6, 2007

Day 96 | April 6 2007 | Shredded

Who's also sucessfull at the office? The office paper shredder. It does its job very well. 24 x 7, 365 days a year. Does not qustuon others, does not argue, does not ask for a raise! So do you love your shredder?

Well I do. It did its job of shredding an expired credit card, and earned its way to the 365's day 96.

Thursday, April 5, 2007

Day 95 | April 5 2007 | Brand Recall - Portable Ads

Are we there yet? I guess we are.. We are in a place where marketers are grabbing our attention. Its apparent by all such portable vans, with power backup, parked strategically in high volume places. They make sure that you pass by them and 'look' at them, and do recall the brand on your next shopping trip. Brand Recall!

Taken on the busy Koramangala main, while bicycling back home from my evening cycling sessions.

Day 94 | April 4 2007 | Landing

This is the year of cheap air travel in India. Cut throat competition is driving air fares to the lowest possible, sometimes even allowing passengers to fly for free. The fares are so low that even the 'common man' can easily afford flying on a yearly vacation.

This was the first time I got decent plane shots on my D40. This is an Indigo plane, descending to land at Bangalore Airport.

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

Day 93 | April 3 2007 | Thinking of what to buy?

Inside a mall, its always fun to window shop. I was outside Archies Gallery looking at the tiny decorative items in the display window; while a lady inside was checking out the jewelery. She was taking her sweet time to do that, while I got this candid shot.

Do women really decide on something. Is it, that if they choose something, they are sub-consciously accepting that there can be nothing better than that? Does that make them such slow shoppers, that it takes them forever? I guess its a buggy algorithm up there responsible for this trait, which makes the choosing so difficult.

Hoping that the lady readers take this lightly... :P

Day 92 | April 2 2007 | Good Luck Windchime

This is the wooden plate of a Chinese wind chime, a gift from my sister, hanging in my drawing room. The chime makes beautiful heart warming melodious sounds, even when a small breeze flows in. Feng Shui says it helps in generating positive or good Chi. I just love the sounds it makes, and I'm crazy about wind chimes now.

I asked a colleague of mine who is of Chinese origin, what those engravings mean. He says it means good luck, and that everything goes your way. Just a normal greeting during the Chinese new year.

Day 91 | April 1 2007 | Lord Of The Rings

Well, thats just my engagement ring. So that makes me the Lord of this ring right ?
BTW, if you watch closely, you can see my reflection of taking the photograph in the left most diamond.

Day 60 to Day 90 - Report and Archive

Another month gone by.. It was a difficult month to keep up in terms of posts. My motivation had faded near the end of it. But still want to go all the way to the end. So here it is, an archive of the photos of March 2007..
